goals and resolutions quarterly check-up

2012-04-03 - 8:51 a.m.

Loud, scary, terrifying storms last night. The power was apparently out for 90 minutes.

Peachfront's Note: I actually wrote the rest of this entry on April 1, but I didn't feel particularly like posting on goals and resolutions on April Fool's Day.

2012 Resolutions

  1. Exercise 6 days a week for 45 minutes per day. So far, so good, although it has been pretty low impact exercise. I usually go the whole hour.
  2. Learn to write in the Kindle format, so that I can reprint my previously published short stories as a collection. Maybe I can also reprint some of my nonfiction to which I still hold the reprint rights. Great progress here, as I've updated, edited, formatted, converted, and published my first ebook for Kindle and Nook.
  3. Either find a mirror site for my diaries or start to Kindle-ize my journals so I'll have a back-up. Some progress: I discovered that I can mirror my diary on Wordpress, but the conversion is going to be a PITA.
  4. A key skill I need: Learn to drill a hole in rocks. Great progress: Still real shaky but I have drilled four stones.
  5. Spend a minimum of 50 hours using a Dremel or flexshaft tool. Not much progress here, as I've spent about an hour, all on the hole-drilling project.
  6. Complete three more stone mosaic projects, with at least one project to involve some more advanced techniques such as a soldering a stained agate lampshade or box. Progress: OK, I've made one great project, the owl picture frame, and I have experimented with a glass project that will be a prototype for a more challenging project.
  7. Sell or swap 400 pounds of stuff I have too much of. Use the money and supplies generated to improve my stone-cutting art. Decent progress: I have sold or swapped 143 pounds of mostly stone and books. It is actually getting decently difficult to find stuff I need to sell or swap, so I'm making great progress in clearing space and picking up a few extra dollars or stones.
  8. Every month, take an action to increase our future financial security. Great progress: In January I fully funded our IRAs with some closed checking accounts and DH's bonus. In February, I did a complete update of our financial profile, including a major paper shred of outdated accounts and useless paper. In March, I verified the accuracy of my credit report, tested the psychic reading venture, completely updated and published my first ebook, and registered for eLance. Also got R. a small free checking account with a debit card that he can use for withdrawing foreign currency. Bonus: The new account is giving him $50 incentive for giving them a try. Whew.
